Power a Positive Day: Doing Breakfast Right

One of the biggest factors for having a positive, life-giving day is starting off on the right foot! We’re huge advocates of having a kick-ass morning routine but nothing starts your day off right like a solid breakfast. These are a few of our favorites:

Mango Banana Berry Smoothie
.5 cup Frozen Mixed Berries
1 cup Frozen Mango
.5 Banana

Add all ingredients to a blender and blend away! If your mixture appears too thick to spin, add .25 cups of water until you get your desired consistency. (Yes we use water because have you read the nutrition facts on your orange juice?!)

Avocado and Mango Tropical Toast
.5 small avocado
1 fresh mango
2 slices of whole grain bread
Lemon juice, salt, and pepper to taste

Toast your bread. Smash half of your avocado in a bowl and add freshly squeezed lemon juice, salt, and pepper to taste. Slice your mango into small cubes. Spread the avocado on your toast and sprinkle cubed mango on top!

Banana Sorbet
1 frozen banana

Some people consider this a great alternative to ice cream but on hot summer days, it’s one of my favorite breakfast options (especially post morning run!). Freeze one banana overnight. Add the banana to the blender until it’s creamy and then eat right away for a soft-serve-like consistency. BONUS: If you prefer the texture of hard-scooped ice cream, blend four frozen bananas and add the mixture to an air-tight container. Freeze the container overnight and scoop out a serving the next morning (four bananas=four servings).

Overnight Oats
.5 cup oatmeal
.25 cup strawberries
.25 cup blueberries
1 cup almond milk
1 tbsp almond butter

In the bottom of a mason jar, pour in your oatmeal. Layer your almond butter, strawberries, and blueberries on top of the oatmeal (in addition to other berries you may want!). Pour your almond milk over the mixture and seal the lid to the jar. Place in the refrigerator overnight.

Peanut Butter Protein Balls
1/2 cup creamy Peanut Butter
1/2 cup of semi-sweet chocolate chips
1 cup dry old fashioned oatmeal
1/2 cup ground flaxseed
1/3 cup honey
1 tsp vanilla extract

This is another one that doubles as a great snack when you need a little pick me up! Each batch makes about 12-15 balls depending on how large you roll them and each ball is about 6 grams of protein. Throw all of your ingredients into a bowl and mix them well. Place the bowl in the refrigerator for about 20 minutes to get a stronger consistency for rolling. Now, take a tablespoon of the mixture and roll it into a ball with your hands. Repeat until all of the batter has been used. Store these in the refrigerator for no longer than 10 days (but I guarantee they won’t last that long!).

Egg and Avocado Toasted Sandwich
.5 small avocado
2 eggs
2 slices of whole grain bread
2 small balls of fresh mozzarella cheese
.5 cups of fresh greens

Spread avocado on both sides of your bread then put it in the toaster oven. Fry your eggs and add the mozzarella cheese on top once they are almost finished (it will continue to melt even off heat). Once your eggs are finished, use the same already-heated pan to lightly sautee your greens. Place your eggs on your avocado spread toast and add your greens on top!

These are just a few of our favorite breakfast options but they all start the day off right either packed with protein or getting a head start on your fruit and veggie count for the day! Share some of your favorite breakfast creations below.
